True Union Ball Valve

Hayward’s True Union Ball Valves have been designed to be easy to service and repair. The valve can be overhauled without disconnecting the system piping connections.

Removing the Valve Body

To remove the valve body simply unscrew the two assembly nuts.

Ready for Disassembly..

The valve body lifts out…ready for disassembly. The system piping connections are not disturbed. Inspect the two end connector o-rings on the valve body for damage as well as the sealing surface of the end connectors.

Valve Seal Removal

The valve seal retainer can be removed with a spanner wrench, a seal retainer tool available from Hayward or, more commonly, by using screwdrivers to turn the retainer out of the valve body as shown here.

Inspect Seal

Inspect the seal retainer o-ring for damage.

Removing Ball

The ball can now be removed. Inspect for damage.

Removing Valve Handle

Next remove the valve handle, it’s a compression fit on the valve stem. A plastic mallet can be used…..or……..

Closed Position

The valve can be put in the closed position and the handle gently tapped on the end of a work bench.

Pushing Down on Stem

Pushing down on the stem forces it into the body…..

Removal

Where it can be removed.

Inspection

Inspect the two stem o-rings for damage.

Removing seals

Remove one of the two PTFE seats from the seal retainer.

Removing Seals

The other PTFE seat is removed from inside the valve body.

Replacing Seats

Inspect the seats for damage. While the valve is disassembled it’s always good practice to replace the seats and all o-rings no matter what their condition.

Finishing Up..

That’s all there is to it. Reverse the procedure to re-assemble the valve and put it back into service.
